A Glimmer of Hope…

Garden - Seeding

I know I’ve been quiet lately…

That’s because I’ve been struggling with discouragement…

For the last couple of weeks, mom and I have both been fighting this demon… wondering what we should do about our farm…

In all honesty… we could lose our farm…

Yes, I’ve shared how we plan to sell the farm and go out on the road… but truth be told… our true desire is to make this farm work…

But let’s face it… there are a lot of expenses to this homesteading gig…

First, there is the cost of purchasing livestock… and their feed and bedding…

Next, is the farm equipment and tools to work the land…

And then, there are the utilities — even if you are lucky enough to have your own well for water, if you truly want to go completely off grid, you need to go solar (or wind)… but, there is still the cost of solar panels… And, unless you are mechanically inclined (which I am not), there is still the cost of paying someone to install them!

Oh, and let’s not forget… there is the mortgage for the home and land on which you plan to live out your dream of homesteading!

Let’s face it…homesteading ain’t cheap!

FAITH THE SIZE OF A MUSTARD SEED

Don’t get me wrong… although it wasn’t my idea to move to the country, I find that I really enjoy this way of living… of getting back to my roots… doing things the way our grandmothers and grandfathers used to do things!

Let’s face it! They knew how to do stuff!

They didn’t go to the grocery store on a whim for a can of this or a bottle of that! They grew and raised their own food! They actually fixed things that were broken instead of throwing things away! They were self-sufficient!

That is my dream!

In scripture, it says that if we have faith, the size of a mustard seed, that we can move mountains…

Faith Can Move Mountains - Country Girl Homestead

We have a mountain in front of us…

If things do not turn around financially, we could in fact, lose our farm… so, one way or another, we may be traveling the road whether we want to or not…

But, I believe that God has given me a vision of being self-sufficient…

I believe this farm is my place of learning…. the place where I find out what I can do, and who I am as a person…

I may fall flat on my face… and yes, we may even lose our farm…

But until we leave, I will continue to work the soil and plant our garden… and I will continue to take care of our livestock…

I haven’t given up yet!

I believe Gods’ word when it says, I can say to this mountain ‘move’ and it shall be moved…

You may think I am wearing ‘rose colored glasses,’ and that I need to face facts… but for me… it’s a glimmer of hope!

Till next time,

~ Sheri

Desperate for change, I left the city behind and moved to the country... I am obsessed with raising chickens, old barns and cooking from scratch. Welcome to my homestead!
